Language Barriers

Halleuiah! I have overcome technological oppression to make this post.

For the last two weeks, my Russian family has mostly said "tak" and "shura" to me. I kept asking my Russian teacher for the translation, but to no avail. Finally, my host sister said it in the kitchen and I couldn't take it anymore- I asked her what "shura" meant. She was puzzled and slowly explained that some people have nicknames and "Shura" was a nickname- for the cat.

To Russian/Mexican-American friendship!

Beto taught some Russians we met on the street Por Arriba, Por Abajo, Por El Centro, Por El Dentro and they were so excited that they wrote it down on a napkin and gave us some congac. Classno.
